After years of sharing plant-based recipes on Rise Shine Cook — meals that are oil-free, veg-forward, nourishing, and beautiful — something in me has shifted.
I’m still wildly dedicated to this way of cooking. I still believe in food as medicine, I still limit added oils and processed ingredients, and I still care deeply about making healthy food taste really good.
But lately, the way I move through my days has changed.
I have two small boys. Time feels different now. Mornings (and evenings) are chaotic. Meals are squeezed between naps, mom mom mom’s, playtime, and of course, laundry (so much laundry!). I’ve found myself craving food that’s simpler, more flexible, faster — but still satisfying and nutrient-dense.
These days, the messy, real-life side of cooking is calling louder, and that’s where my new series comes in.
Introducing Crumbs!
This is life right now: recipe shoots with a side of little fingers in the frame. Here’s George (my 3-year-old) reminding me that food is always meant to be eaten, not just photographed
Crumbs
Crumbs is a recipe and newsletter series for anyone who wants to eat well when life feels full — whether you’re parenting, working late, caregiving, or simply trying to keep up.
I called it Crumbs because some days, that’s all we feel like we have left — a few minutes, a few ingredients, or just a bit of energy. But even crumbs can become something nourishing.
You’ll still find all the things I love:
✨ Plant-based, oil-free meals
✨ Whole foods, thoughtfully combined
✨ Beautiful flavors, nourishing ingredients
But this series is a little more… grounded. It’s about feeding yourself (not your kids!) while you feed everyone else. It’s about making cooking easier — not fancier. And it’s about those moments where you realize you’re running on coffee and toast and think, okay, I need something better than this.
What you’ll get in Crumbs:
Flexible recipes twice a month that work even if you swap ingredients or skip a step
Smart ways to stretch one meal across several days
Tips to prep tomorrow’s dinner while you’re making tonight’s
Blender hacks and other shortcuts to make cooking easier
Low-effort activities you can do with kids (if you have them)
And always, a reminder that your meals can be simple and still deeply satisfying
This series was born out of my life with two small kids, but it’s not just for parents. If you’ve ever felt crunched for time, stuck on the same meals, or like dinner is always a little too last-minute, this is for you.
Whether you’re solo, partnered, parenting, caregiving, or just busy, join me on this Crumbs journey where I hope to help you cook with more peace and less stress, because this is what I want for myself, too.
If you’re already a Rise Shine Cook subscriber (if you’re reading this from your inbox, you are!), you’ve automatically been added to my Crumbs series. If you’d like to remove yourself from this series, here are the instructions.
Thank you for being here and for taking the time to nourish yourself, even when life feels like crumbs.
The first recipe will be hitting your inbox this coming Sunday! Here’s a little hint…it’s slurped hot but doesn’t need a pot!
Love,
Ash
P.S. A little note on Rise Shine Cook…
The part of me that loves developing beautiful, gourmet plant-based recipes isn’t going anywhere. Rise Shine Cook — with its food photography, elevated flavors, and celebratory meals — is still alive and well. It’s just sharing the stage right now.
Yes!! This is exactly what I need!! I look forward to what comes!
Welcome back! Glad you’re still doing what you do so well..create healthy recipes. Looking forward to the journey. I’m onboard 😊
